Les Chenilles – French School in Walthamstow

About

Les Chenilles offers French classes on Saturday mornings to children of nursery and primary school age who have at least one French-speaking parent or guardian.

Founded in 2019, Les Chenilles aims to provide children in Walthamstow, London, and surrounding areas with access to French language and culture and the opportunity for French-speaking families in the area to connect.

Les Chenilles is a member of Le Parapluie FLAM (Français Langue Maternelle), an umbrella organisation which supports French language schools for young children in the UK.

We are a UK-registered charity run by a group of volunteer parents. We are always keen to hear from parents who would like to give their time and energy to this project. If you are interested in getting involved, we would love to hear from you!

Our classes

Classes take place every Saturday morning during term time at Big Creative Academy Campus, 38 Clifton Ave, London E17 6HL.

All classes last for 50 minutes except for Les Papillons who have 1h20 minutes classes.

For the Mille-Pattes, Fourmis and Coccinelles classes, we ask one parent per child to attend the class with them. For all other classes, parents are not allowed to attend to ensure the best learning experience possible.

Please note that booking for the Autumn term 2026 will open around the 1st of August.

For the school year 2026/2027, we offer classes to the following age groups – please note we take into account the age of the child on the 1st of September 2026, to ensure classes of similar level:

— Les Mille-Pattes / 1 year old
from 9am to 9:50am

— Les Fourmis / 2 years old
from 10am to 10.50am

— Les Coccinelles / 3 years old
from 11am to 11.50am

— Les Abeilles / Reception
from 9am to 9:50am

— Les Libellules I / Year 1
from 10am to 10.50am

— Les Libellules II / Year 2
from 11am to 11.50am

— Les Papillons I / Year 3 and 4
from 9am to 10.20am

— Les Papillons II / Year 5 and 6
from 10.30am to 11.50am

We reserve the right to transfer a child to the appropriate class if they have been enrolled in a class that does not correspond to their age. If the appropriate class is full, we also reserve the right to cancel the child’s enrolment in the course.
